24 Meetup Groups match “Play Reading” near Alameda, CA
Meet others who enjoy reading plays aloud. Amateurs and first-timers are absolutely welcome. We've enjoyed a wide range of plays... from Moliere to Albee, Neil Simon to Shakespeare, Chekhov to "The Laramie Project". Meetups happen once a month on a Monday evening at 7 PM, in a public space, emphasis on the word "pub". We typically end around 9:30 or so.
A Sunday afternoon, a glass of wine, a few snacks, a fantastic piece of playwriting, and a group of avid play readers who like to have fun! What could be better? East Bay PlayReaders is a group for amateurs who are theater lovers and would like the social experience of group reading. The group is open to anyone, and actors can join, but the purpose is to bring in non-professionals who want to be a part of a playreading, without theater experience. The venue we have chosen is in Alameda, CA. , …

I took a wonderful play writing class at The Playwright's Foundation in San Francisco. It gave me an appreciation for the group dynamic that a class offers. Since I am not in the position to take a class at the moment I would love to have a meet up that offers what a class environment does. It is invaluable to the writing process to hear one's words read and being exposed to the ideas others has been a rewarding and enriching experience. I also love the idea of writing in a group setting. This s …

Let's create a Grand-Guignol Theatre troupe! Let's make our own work! I need to be clear that this will be a labor of love. That being said, let me know if you know any backers. I need people from all aspects of theater who have a love for Grand-Guignol Theatre, Theatre of Horror. I need people who love gore shows, people who love sideshows, people who have a passion for historical horror theatre in all it's glory. I am a huge film buff and I have to say I know a lot more about film than theater …
There are lots of dining groups on Meetup; I belong to some. And they're great. But I don't see anything devoted to the goofy, offbeat restaurants and snack shops and events that can make eating a purposefully amusing experience. Tabletops before tablecloths, go cups before goblets, fun before fancy, cute before culinary. I don't want to be a decadent foodie all the time! This isn't intended to be devoted to bargain, cheap-eats places, though most of the things I'm interested in for this group …
Left Coast Theatre Company is the newest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender theater in San Francisco. In order to bring these talented individuals together, the company holds monthly writing workshops to help writers develo …
This group is meant to bring together dedicated and serious writers who value voice, advocacy, experience and artistic written expression. The focus of this group is the feminine experience. That doesn't mean the female experience. It can be the experience or exploration of anything deemed feminine, supposedly feminine, not feminine, etc. Writing can focus on struggling with ideas or concepts of femininity. We will write, share our work, participate in readings and create a community of writers …

Taking two play-writing classes at the Berkeley Rep has given me an appreciation for the group dynamic that seems to go so well with writing plays. Hearing others read my words and being exposed to the ideas others have had has been a rewarding and enriching experience. This group will be a forum for folks to hone their craft, share ideas, and have their works read by sympathetic writers. If you have a finished piece, a work in progress, a concept for a play or are looking for an idea, join us a …

Poetry, short stories, plays, novels, history, philosophy, science, not necessarily in that order, classics that are worthy of discussion, current and past, western and non-western, these are the works we discuss. The discussion is what is most important. We discuss these works to enlarge our understanding of the ideas that shape our culture and gain a deeper appreciation for what it means to be human.

We (Mireya and Rosy) are artists and creative arts therapists living in the Bay Area. What began as a longing to create a freeing arts practice for ourselves became a deep desire to provide an authentically enlivening experience for others. For over a year, we explored the questions, "What kind of conditions would just naturally, organically nurture the creative process in people? And, what kind of structure and container could safely hold and guide a diversity of experiences?" Once we found ans …

She rarely made a mistake and was a great champion of the status quo. She never ruffled any feathers, took any gr …
